A natural miracle - that's vitamin C - it certainly is. We can call it a universal vitamin that has very beneficial properties for the skin. Why include it in your cosmetic routine?
Forms of Vitamin C
There are several forms of Vitamin C that are more or less stable, today we will focus directly on ascorbic acid, which we will refer to as AA.
Ascorbic Acid (AA) – is one of the most commonly used forms of Vitamin C in cosmetics because it is also naturally found in our skin. However, this form of Vitamin C is not very stable – if it comes into contact with air, or combines with water, it becomes an oxidant and loses all its effects. In this case, it can rather harm than help, and the skin can become red and irritated. It is precisely because of this property of ascorbic acid that we find it most often in creams and oil serums, or in combination with hyaluronic acid. Since ascorbic acid becomes unstable in air and light and oxidizes, when it comes to serums, it should most often be found in dark bottles and this serum should also be kept in a dark place.
It is also very interesting that ascorbic acid as a form of Vitamin C is the only clinically tested one. In the case of other forms (for example ascorbyl tetra-isopalmitate, or magnesium ascorbyl phosphate), clinical tests are not conducted, so we can only trust the manufacturers that their serum is really effective.
Benefits
Vitamin C is irreplaceable for us. Because the human body cannot produce vitamin C on its own, we need to supply it either through food or by direct application to the skin. Vitamin C helps our body repair damaged skin cells and protects the skin from oxidative stress caused by pollutants such as ozone or harmful UV rays.
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, brightens the skin and reduces fine lines and wrinkles, also reduces the visibility of dark pigment spots and helps even out the skin tone.
One of the essential things to mention is that vitamin C has an important effect on collagen production. Collagen is one of the natural filling substances in the skin. In youth, we have a sufficient supply and our skin gains a firm and even appearance thanks to collagen. With increasing age, the amount of collagen decreases, which significantly contributes to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles and loss of facial contour volume.
Vitamin C helps in two ways. First, it is essential for collagen production in skin cells. Second, vitamin C as a powerful antioxidant protects the skin from free radicals that cause breakdown of cells producing skin components such as collagen and accelerate its degradation.
Usage
We recommend starting the application gradually, for example 2-3 times a week (once a day) and gradually increasing the doses, because skin that is not yet used to vitamin C and other serums may react with irritation to a high dose of vitamin C. Remember, less is more :)
You will definitely find your vitamin C in our offer.
We recommend these great vitamin C serums:
The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%
PURITO - Pure Vitamin C Serum 60ml
GEEK & GORGEOUS - C-Glow 30ml
We draw attention to - SKINTEGRA Superba C
The vitamin C ester that was selected for the Superba C serum is the versatile sodium ascorbyl phosphate, better known as SAP. SAP is an extremely safe, stable and water-soluble form of vitamin C that works as a powerful antioxidant, effective at brightening uneven and tired-looking skin and keeps skin fresh and radiant. SAP reduces oxidative stress on the skin caused by environmental factors such as UV radiation and air pollution, which leads to microscopic skin damage that accumulates over time. This accumulation of skin damage, as well as reduced collagen production, is evident as signs of aging.
SAP not only acts as an antioxidant but also as a melanin inhibitor, which is why it is particularly important as a skin care component effective against hormone-induced hyperpigmentation (such as melasma) and post-inflammatory pigmentation.
Summary? As written by our collaborator and beauty blogger Be Beauty with Katy: "Vitamin C is a naturally occurring antioxidant in nature. This universal vitamin has very beneficial properties for the skin, for example it works as an effective anti-aging preparation because it supports collagen production. It also has mild whitening effects, so it helps reduce pigment spots and hyperpigmentation. Since it is an antioxidant, it creates a protective film on the skin against free radicals, UV radiation and smog. It is also a great helper in the fight against acne and rashes."
